Weekends!

Last weekend I celebrated Halloween by getting dressed up and going to two parties, a pig roast, a Pierced Arrows show, going bowling, and attending the Treasure Island Flea. It's a testament to how much fun I was having that I don't have very many pictures to share, but here is a shot of me in my "cotton candy" costume.


This weekend, I headed down to the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs for a weekend of fun and relaxation with my friend Marina. We had rain on our first day there, but we consoled ourselves at the outlet mall (I got a great dress at the Prada outlet), and by drinking cocktails in the hot tub, watching chick flicks in our room, and eating our way through the menu at the King's Highway. And when the sun came out, we had a chance to lay out and bask in it before returning home.

Even though I have been single for all but two Valentine's Days of my life, it is still one of my favorite holidays. Who doesn't love pink and red, and an excuse to eat chocolates and drink champagne? Hope you all have a great one!

Weekends (Catch Up)

In addition to exotic vacations and craft shows I have had a lot on the books the past couple of weeks. In no particular order, I :


Attended the Slow Food SF annual Crab Feed with Erik, where I consumed more crab than I had previously thought possible.

Watched a documentary about Playland at the Beach (San Francisco's answer to Coney Island from the 1920's-1970's) at the SF Public Library with my friend Suzy, followed by cocktails at Smuggler's Cove and amazing burgers at the Double Decker.

Went to two shows at the Stork Club after not having been there in at least 5 years (the Barbies are gone!): Grass Widow playing a benefit for a friend of a friend's friend, and the Wrong Words with the Touch Me Nots.

Saw the Golden Girls Christmas Drag Show with Jessica (our annual tradition), which included guest star Jane Weidlan of the Go Go's this year!

Attended my friend Jenn's holiday potluck, which, although I was only able to stay an hour, was extremely fun.


Ate a memorable pre-birthday dinner at Camino, where they had printed up special menus just for me!

Had an wonderful 30th birthday, including brunch with my parents at Brown Sugar Kitchen, dinner with Lexi at Little Star, and more alcohol than I have probably ever consumed with my friends at the Hotsy Totsy Club. Thank you to everyone who bought me drinks, and an extra big thanks to those who made sure I didn't die from alcohol poisoning!

Celebrated Christmas with my high school friends, as per tradition, with a new generation joining us for the first time!


Played games at my friend Myles' super fun event, TwistMess (if you live in the LA area, you should seriously hire his company, Wise Guys Events, to put on a game for you or your business). So much fun!!

I think that catches us up until the New Year...

Happy Chanuka!

Last night was the first night of the holiday, and I was able to light the candles with my parents after I finished up at the 18 Reasons bazaar. Tonight: latkes!

Weekend! (Thanksgiving Edition)

This weekend was pretty perfect as far as holidays go. My cousin Matt came into town on Thursday and we took a walk to the little beach at the Albany Bulb, which is just down the street from my house. We caught up and watched Seymour running around in the surf, and got home just in time to meet up with my friend Jessica, who was spending the holiday with us since she couldn't go home to her family. We watched a movie (Yes Man, because my favorite Thanksgiving movie, Home for the Holidays, wouldn't play in my VCR) and Jessica helped me get some cards ready for this week's holiday sales, and then headed over to my parents' house for dinner.


I had baked my (well, Martha's) cranberry merengue pie, and also made cranberry sauce and a creamed chard casserole. My mom made her famous corn pudding, sweet potato casserole, and pumpkin pie, and my dad cooked the turkey (on the barbeque) and stuffing. Since it was just the five of us (plus puppies), we had tons of food and I think it was a really nice meal- very low key.

Friday morning, Matt and I watched Seinfeld reruns on tv and ate leftovers (have I mentioned that the Thanksgiving Sandwich- turkey, stuffing, mayo and cranbery on sourdough toast- accompanied by Mom's corn pudding, and followed by pumpkin pie is my Death Row meal?) before meeting up with my dad for a hike in the hills at Redwood Park. We left the park just as the sun was setting- it was so pretty over the East Ridge!


After our hike, Matt and I had a quick dinner at Burma Superstar and then went into the city to watch a free screening of Vertigo at the Great American Music Hall. It was great to see such a classic San Francisco film in a unique setting, and everyone there was in a great mood and super friendly. We almost didn't go because we were running late, but we got there just in time and I am so glad we did. We ended the night back in my neighborhood with drinks at the Hotsy Totsy Club before crashing.

Saturday morning we had brunch at Camino and then Matt headed back to LA. I went to meet my friend Jenn and her family for a matinee of Burlesque, which was totally ridiculous but very entertaining, and finished my weekend with a lazy work day today.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's my favorite holiday and I want to give thanks to all the amazing people in my life. Lots of love to my family and friends, and everyone else who helps make my world consistently wonderful.

Pie Bird Press will be selling goods at several holiday fairs next month, as listed below. If you just can't wait to get your hands on a calendar, they are available at both locations (Ferry Building SF, and 4th Street Berkeley) of The Gardener. If you don't live locally, you can always buy a calendar online in our Felt & Wire shop. But we hope you will come out and visit us at one of these upcoming events!


From November 26- December 31, our calendars and cards will be for sale at Craftland in Providence, RI.

On December 1, we will be at the 18 Reasons Holiday Craft Bazaar at 593 Guerrero in San Francisco, from 6-9pm.


On December 3, we will be at the opening reception for Holidayland gift sale hosted by Professor Squirrel at the Compound Gallery in Oakland, from 6-10pm. Please note that this sale goes on until December 19 if you can't make it on the 3rd!


On December 4, we will be at Noise Pop's Holiday Shop at the Verde Club in SF, from 12-5. Since this is a Noise Pop event, there will be bands playing, too!


On December 5, we will be at the annual Northern California RISD Alumni sale at Fort Mason in San Francisco, from 9:30am-5pm.

On December 18 and 19, we will be at Renegade Craft Fair at the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Francisco, from 11am-7pm.
