You Are So Loved

Here's a sneak peek at my artwork in the upcoming Chronicle Books release, You Are So Loved. You might recognize my "Me + You" print from the Sunshine show that the Curiosity Shoppe organized last year. The book will be out on August 29, or you can pre-order your copy here!

Show

For some reason every year it is weirdly difficult to write about the Stationery Show. I always take pictures at the show with the intention of posting them, but they are just snapshots of things that I like, and I feel like a lot of other bloggers do a much better job at capturing the gems of the show than I do. I often feel self-conscious asking exhibitors if I can take photos, even though I myself never have a problem with it when someone asks me. I also feel like there's a bit of pressure- do I only feature my friends, and if so, what if I miss someone? This year, one of my favorite new booths was Pawling, but I didn't get any pictures of them. It was an interesting show for me this year, since I wasn't exhibiting and neither were a number of my friends. I loved seeing how much color there was, and how many people are doing letterpress involving large fields of ink like I do.

In any case, without any further commentary, here's what I snapped this year.

Weekend, Etc.!

I'm off to New York in a couple of days for the National Stationery Show. I am taking a year off from having my own booth this year, so if you are going to the show, be sure to stop by Crow & Canary's booth (#3024) to see all my new products! I'm excited to see all my stationery buddies and to have some time in New York outside of the Javits center, and a friend is meeting me for a mini road trip before we head home, so I'll have lots to post about when I get back!

In the meantime, let's catch up on the last week. I took a knife skills class at 4505 Meats, which was a bit more thorough than the last one I took, as well as a meditation class at the Shambhala Center in Berkeley. I saw two movies- The Avengers and The Five Year Engagement- had drinks with an good friend, saw Chad Harbach interviewed about The Art of Fielding (which I'm currently reading) at the Palace of Fine Arts, ate late night doughnuts at Bob's and a couple of wonderful meals at Camino, went on some lovely hikes, got sunburnt, spent an afternoon reading and eating ice cream in Dolores Park, and... hired a cleaning service for my house! I know, that last one doesn't sound that exciting, but trust me: it is!

Also, I've finally given in and started posting on Instagram. You can follow me there at Deerseason87 if you're curious.

Cookie Time!

I have been remiss in not mentioning that the project I worked on with Chronicle Books and Girl Scouts of America last year is finally available for sale! Released to coincide with GSA's 100 year anniversary last month, check out these adorable stationery sets and journals that I illustrated! This was a really fun project to work on (hello- I got paid to draw cookies!), and I love the way it all turned out. I designed four patterns (below), and the wonderful Jennifer Tolo Pierce at Chronicle made them into the lovely products you can now purchase.

Weekend!

Well, most of my weekend was spent at Renegade and/or sleeping, but Friday night was quite eventful and more than made up for the rest. I got to check out the opening for the Sunshine show at the Curiosity Shoppe, had a great dinner at Radish, went to see a movie, saw my friends, Thunderbleed AKA Blind Vengeance, play at Slim's, and finished off the night with dessert at Bar Agricole. Here are some pictures of my print and the other sunshiny prints up at the Curiosity Shoppe. They are all priced at $40 and will be up for the rest of the month! You can also purchase any of them online, here.
